Theatre of Varkaus is a human size professional theatre. It has been working here in the heart of Saimaa region continuously since 1913. We produce 4-6 premiers per season and always at least one of them is a musical.
Over 100 years old  theatrehouse has such an unique athmosphere. One can not describe it – it must be  experienced. Hospitability is our second name.

Club evenings

Our popular Club evenings (Klubi) are open from September to May mainly in the first Wednesday of the month at 18 o´clock.  Themes and performers vary.
Duration approximately 1,5-2 hours.

Musicals

Our musical of season 2024-2025 is Rajaton rakkaus – Boundless Love. It is a heavenly musical comedy set to the music of late Finnish artists.
Coroner Anna Harju starts her working day with usual routine tasks. The day takes a new turn when a surprising couple enters her life from across the border: the over-optimistic Olavi Virta and Kiiski Topi Sorsakoski from the opposite shore. The gentlemen want Anna to find out the reason for the artists’ premature deaths.
Tired of her boring life, Anna accepts the task after some negotiations. A fairytale journey towards the unknown begins. The sparks of infatuation between Anna and Olav melt into a love that is both absolutely forbidden and completely justified at the same time. The lovers realize that before long their paths will part. Do they dare to believe in a miracle?
Boundless love transports the viewer with the power of music on an unforgettable journey between life and death. The musical comedy offers a touch of mysticism and lots of laughs, but also touching moments and deep emotions.
On stage, the tangoking Petri Hervanto as Olavi Virta and our talented cast will perform the beloved hits of late Finnish artists with our brilliant live band.

Guided tours behind the scenes

Come and take a peek behind the scenes!

During the tour, you’ll get a peek where the public doesn’t normally have access. The performance itself is just part of the work that went into it. Now you can explore the set, the sewing room and the side rooms of our stage. You’ll also hear a bit of our theatre’s history and good theatre stories!
There will be time for questions at the end of the backstage tour of the theatre.
